Mission and Goal
Umpqua Watersheds, Inc. monitors the bioregions of our home in the Umpqua, Coos, and Coquille Watersheds in Southwest Oregon
Our watersheds run from the crest of the Cascade Mountains to the Pacific Coast and include the public lands of:
The Coos Bay Bureau of Land Management, 330,000 acres
The Elliott State Forest, 93,000 acres
The Roseburg Bureau of Land Management, 425,500 acres
The Umpqua National Forest, 985,000 acres
The Crater Lake National Park, 183,000 acres
Mildred Kanipe Park and other various state and county parks that encompass some of the rarest habitats in Oregon
Umpqua Watersheds, Inc., is dedicated to the protection and restoration of the ecosystems of the Umpqua watershed and beyond.
Our Goals:
| 1. | Advocate sound stewardship practices that sustain biodiversity and restore degraded lands and waterways. |
| 2. | Celebrate the natural beauty and majesty of the native forests and freeflowing waters of the Umpqua and beyond. |
| 3. | Create permanent wilderness protection for roadless areas in southwestern Oregon. |
| 4. | Educate the public on ecosystem management issues in the interest of informed consent and increased participation in decision making on public lands. |
| 5. | Improve communication with public agencies, private landowners and industry. |
| 6. | Monitor the activities of the federal, state and local agencies charged with the responsibility of land and water management in southwestern Oregon. |
| 7. | Provide leadership, support and motivation to local and regional grassroots conservationists. |
| 8. | Support educational, research and outreach projects by serving as a source of information on conservation problems and solutions. |
Our Purpose:
To monitor the activities of the federal, state and local agencies charged with the responsibility of managing forest and other land within the Umpqua watershed and neighboring regions. To advocate a sound stewardship ethic that sustains biodiversity and restores damaged lands and waterways.
To improve communication with public agencies, private landowners and industry. To educate the public in the interest of informed consent and public participation in decision making. To coordinate education, research and outreach projects, by serving as a source of information on conservation issues. To provide leadership, motivation and empowerment to grassroots conservationists.
