Fish Creek Watershed Project
Another Recently proposed DIAMOND LAKE TIMBER SALE
| Units 24 (left) and 82 (right) are two of many units of old-growth forests that the Forest Service has proposed to "regenerate harvest" (remove most of the old forest in order to regenerate a new tree plantation. AKA Clearcut) in the Fish Creek timber sale. These two units are across the 3701 road from Big Camas, a campground popular with hunters. | |
| * | 422 acres of regeneration harvest (clearcutting old-growth) |
|
| * | 979 acres of thinning (likely in native, unmanaged forests) | |
| * | 16 miles of new logging roads (other decommissioning does not mitigate for new roads) | |
| * | 12 acres of permanent clearcuts for new permanent helicopter landing sites | |
| * | Wildlife enhancement projects (tree girdling?) | |
| * | New Rock Pits |
Fish Creek once had fish in it. |
| This continues the terror in the Proposed Medicine Mountain National Monument
area.... (in addition to Upper North, Warm Springs, Lemolo, Snog, Pinestrip,
Pigout and Peanuts timber sales). If you will be recreating in the Diamond Lake Ranger District this summer, pick up the maps and go look at some of the forests proposed for logging, and let us know what you think.... While you’re at it, pick up the maps for the proposed Lemolo timber sale, too. |
